Rising aloft from the ashes of a dystopian psychedelic dream Colesy soars, phoenix like, above the burnt-out conflagration below, flying solo now, and without a licence, a multi-instrumentalist, the master and student of all he surveys, captain and reconnaissance strategist of his own quixotic flight.
He is fiercely independent and determined to do it himself - to plug in, tune up and drop out, like some fraught latter-day balladeer refracting through song the counter-cultural rhapsody in blue. Reclaiming and re-purposing colour from the pallet of past masters, he applies liberally and with broad brush strokes great daubs of Ealing blue of Memphis blue; of indigo and Indie Rock N Roll, of ultraviolet 60’s and 90’s psychedelic pop.
Amphibious and ambidextrous, Colesy is equally at home in the air and in the sea. Diving down into the slipstream of his subterranean desires, he swims deftly into the infrared sonar pulse of DIY punk; bathes in the cochineal glow of New Orleans rhythm and blues. Revelling in the minutia of his own sonic hallucinations, he plucks aquatic gems from the great ocean of the collective unconscious and carries them home.
Paying homage to the mighty progenitors of rock, Colesy endeavours to crystallise their quintessence into song; and does so to turn himself on; to turn his listeners on.
